For this special edition of our Grand Round lectures series, we are extremely honored to have infectious diseases and global health expert Jeremy Farrar present his view on the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and lessons that can be learned from this and previous disease outbreaks.
Before becoming Director of the Wellcome Trust in 2013, Sir Jeremy Farrar was Director of the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit in Viet Nam for 18 years, and experienced the original SARS and H5N1 influenza outbreaks there.
In addition to his role at the Wellcome Trust, Farrar co-chaired the World Health Organization’s working group on dengue vaccines and a committee evaluating Ebola therapeutics. From 2017 until 2019, he was a member of the German Ministry of Health’s International Advisory Board on Global Health. Since 2018, Farrar has been serving on the joint World Bank/WHO Global Preparedness Monitoring Board (GPMB).
He was named 12th in the Fortune list of 50 World’s Greatest Leaders in 2015.
